Precision Engineered, Beautifully Consistent
Engineered Stone
Engineered stone combines the natural beauty of quartz crystals with the precision of modern manufacturing. The result is a surface that is harder than most natural stones, completely non-porous, and available in a consistency of colour and pattern that nature cannot provide.

What is Engineered Stone?
Engineered stone (also known as engineered quartz or composite stone) is manufactured from approximately 93–95% crushed quartz crystals bound together with polymer resin. The mixture is formed under vacuum and vibration into slabs, then cured and polished to produce a surface that is harder and less porous than most natural stones.
The manufacturing process allows for precise control of colour, pattern, and texture — producing surfaces that are consistent from slab to slab. This consistency is both engineered stone's greatest advantage and its key difference from natural stone: where natural stone celebrates variation, engineered stone celebrates uniformity.
Important note: engineered stone benchtops are subject to silica dust regulations in Australia. All cutting, grinding, and polishing of engineered stone must be performed using wet methods and appropriate respiratory protection. At Melbourne Natural Stone, all fabrication is performed in our controlled workshop environment with full compliance to WorkSafe Victoria requirements.
Applications
Kitchen Benchtops
Engineered stone is the most popular benchtop material in Australia. Its non-porous surface resists staining without sealing, its hardness resists scratching, and its consistent colour makes it easy to match with cabinetry and splashbacks.
Bathroom Vanities
Engineered stone's non-porous surface makes it ideal for bathrooms — it resists moisture, mould, and the full range of bathroom products without any sealing or special maintenance.
Laundry Benchtops
The laundry is one of the harshest environments in the home — bleach, detergents, and heavy use. Engineered stone handles all of these with ease, making it the practical choice for laundry benchtops.
Commercial Surfaces
Engineered stone's consistency, durability, and low maintenance make it a popular choice for commercial applications — reception desks, café counters, retail displays, and hospitality surfaces.

Caring for Engineered Stone
No sealing required
Engineered stone is non-porous and does not require sealing. This is one of its key advantages over natural stone.
Clean with mild detergent
Clean with warm water and a mild dish detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners and scouring pads that can dull the surface over time.
Avoid prolonged heat exposure
While engineered stone is heat-resistant, the resin binder can be damaged by prolonged exposure to very high heat. Always use trivets for hot pots and pans.
Avoid harsh chemicals
Strong bleach, paint stripper, and oven cleaners can damage the resin binder. If chemical exposure occurs, rinse immediately with water.
